Good restaurant recommendation in Rome

I will be in Rome for my birthday (end February 2017) with my husband and 2 good friends. Can anyone please recommend a very nice restaurant, serving good food, with a nice ambience but not overly expensive? It doesn't have to be a very posh one. Also, we don't speak a word of Italian (just in case....). Thanks.

It's good to get recommendations for Rome restaurants, because there are plenty of good ones, but also plenty of lousy ones. I have been at both. Tripadvisor reviews can help also. But this forum is the best for information. I will offer two, as others will chime in. Cul-du-Sac. This is a lovely little trattoria, albeit tightly packed, in piazza Pasquino. Easy to find. Go to Piazza Navona. Go to the south end. There is a road. While facing the road, go to your right and walk just out of Piazza Navona. You will be able to easily see the restaurant. There is a Brazilian building on Piazza Navona. Piazza Pasquino is right behind this building. I have heard that Taverna Luciferno is excellent, but have never been there. It's off of Campo dei Fiori. Next time ...
You can tripadvisor these places for details.

While not in the historic center Osteria 44 is a lovely place near the US Embassy with great attention paid to the food and not pricey, IMO, although Rome seems more reasonable to us now that we are back in the U.S. paying usurious prices. You might do well to take a short cab ride.

For a completely local experience, La Fraschetta del Pesce is our favorite in Rome. Not fancy but terrific seafood at amazing prices. The owner, Marco, is always present and welcoming. He will assign an English-speaking waiter to you. If you are taking a cab anyway, this is worth the journey. There will be no other tourists.

BTW, make a reservation whichever one. Ask your hotel to do it for you if you are nervous. La Fraschetta is very busy on Fri and Sat so make a res at least by Weds if going one of those nights.

Our favorite restaurant in Rome was Osteria La Gensola at Piazza della Gensola 15 in Trastevere. Usually in a restaurant some portion of the meal is not so good - main course or appetizer. But here we both loved every single thing we ordered, including desserts. The waiter's wine recommendation was also perfect.
Wish we had eaten there earlier in our stay instead of our final night, because we would have gone back a few times. Prices were moderate.

Renato e Luisa. I've recommended this a few times on here, but I'll keep doing so. It was incredible. Every bite was brilliant, from the included amuse bouche through dessert. And the people were very nice to us. Not a lot of English spoken, but enough to get by. We ate there twice, three weeks apart, and booked our second reservation as we finished our first meal.
