Anyone has any recommendations for a good restaurant in Venice? Not too expensive?
I've heard their seafood and their risotto is excellent and I'm dying to try some.
Thais - I am Italian and have spent time in Venice each year for the past 30 years. My absolute favorite restaurant - not expensive - is Birreria Ai Leoncini - about a two minute walk from Piazza San Marco. Address - San Marco, 352 If you go please say hi from Greg to my favorite waiters - Sabrina and her brother Palach!! Ciao, Greg
I sure will, Greg! Thank you so much for your recommendation!
Antiche Carampane - "no lasagne, no pizza, no tourist menu" sign is really on their window. Hard to find but well worth it. It was a dining experience. We showed up a little for our reservation and the staff was eating family style and they offered us some delicious deep fried tiny fish. It was fresh out of the cooker and would go great with beer but instead they gave us a glass of prosesco (sp?), italian sparkling wine. Wow. The waiter spoke English and was quite entertaining. The restaurant is jammed and you can read out to touch your neighbor. If there was a fire we would have died, but it would have been worth it. Must say it was not cheap, but the experience was so stellar, we came back the next night and we did not have a reservation; but they remembered us and squeezed us in. Yes. My wife and I still classify this as one of our favorite dining experiences. Enjoy Look for it in the Lonely Planet Book, 5th Edition. Rich
Stay the Hell out of Harry's Bar. A tourist trap of the worst kind. 20 Euro for a bowl of soup and 30 Euro for a club sandwich...which you don't find out until you have been whisked upstairs, and seated at a table. Seafood is unavoidable in Venice and it is fresh off the boat and still gasping for breath. FYI, the fish will be cooked with the head still attached and will have bones. I like the restaurant Marco Polo.
Second vote for Trattoria Antiche Carampane - we had dinner there in October and loved it. Will definitely return!
