Any suggestions/recommendations of a hotel in Rome. Prefer not near the station. In the Navona, Spanish steps, Trevi fountain. Pantheon, Via Veneto areas ideally oh and not too expensive. A lot to ask I know but anyone have favourites they can share.
We stayed at Residenza San Pantaleo a month ago. It is between Piazza Novona and Campo di Fiori so the location is great. It was less than $150/night for a double with a bathroom, A/C and breakfast is included at a cafe across the street. Will definetly stay there again when we go back.
What time of year are you visiting and what is your budget?
"Expensive" is a relative term so I'm not sure how cheap you want to go. We just returned from a trip that included four nights in Rome. We stayed at one of Rick's recommended B&Bs--Hotel Italia on Via Venezia for 94 Euros per night (double room with a/c paid in cash for Rick Steve's readers). We tried to go without a/c the first night (84 Euros)but there was no fan and it was too noisy outside to open a window. The breakfast was good, the hotel was very clean, the entire staff (with one exception) was pleasant and helpful. The Republica Metro station and Termini station were just a few minutes walk away. We only used the Metro to get to Borghese Gallery and Vatican--everywhere else we found to be within walking distance (we like to walk). There were two restaurants and a cute sandwich shop/bakery on our street. A grocery that sold pizza and sandwiches was nearby. If you want more info, just let me know.
We stayed Albergo Santa Chiara, a Rick recommendation. It is literally right behind the Pantheon, an awesome location. It was in the upper 100 Euro's, more than our other stays, but not too pricey for such a great locale. A great breakfast included and a big tub for doing some laundry!
Thanks everyone. Gives me a good starting point. Yes expensive is a relative term. Preferably under about 180 Euro or so but I know the area is more expensive than others. I generally go in March/April each year so not really high season.
I enjoyed my stay at the Panda Hotel this past Spring.
Very reasonable; great location near the Spanish Steps/Metro.

Helen. when we go in August we are staying at Hotel Nardizzi,(in Rick's book). Our family of 5 is staying there with their overbooking special, 105 euros for a family room that sleeps 5. I do not know if they run the special in April/May
