Good Friday arrival - Milan to Padova

My husband and I will be arriving in Milan on Good Friday. Will we need to make train reservations from Milan to Padova before we leave the States or can we buy the tickets upon arrival? Also, what is the average custom clearance time in Milan? Thanks.
