Hello
we plan to stay on Lake Maggiore for 4-5 nights in September, coming in via train from Switzerland. Really want to experience the amazing italian food! Will we get that on Lake Maggiore (Stresa area) or do we need to find the food outside the lake?
We are thinking of doing day trips to Milan, Torin. I know about Bologna food but it seems too far out of the way unfortunately. or are we really missing out not going there food-wise? Hoping we can find great food on the lake or perhaps when we visit Milan and Torin??
Torino? Yes, wonderful food.
Milan, Yes, of course!Fabulous restaurants.
The best food we had on Lake Maggiore was in Ranco. at Il Sole di Ranco. Take a ferry across the lake.
You can find good food anywhere. Stresa has plenty of good choices both in the historical center near the embarcadero and also in the Isola dei Pescatori.
With only 4 nights I wouldn't venture too far. There are several nice places to visit around lake Maggiore:
Stresa
Borromee Islands
Cannobio
Lake Orta
Orta San Giulio
Ascona and Locarno (Switzerland)
Cento Valli scenic railway
We really enjoyed the food at a couple of restaurants when we were in Stresa last September...
Osteria degli Amici, Via Anna Maria Bolongaro, 31
Mamma Mia, Via Principe Tomaso, 11
Both are in the historic old center of town, and each has both indoor and outdoor seating. We went back to Mamma Mia for dinner a second night before leaving Stresa.
