If anyone is flying to Rome in August I just bought my RT ? non stop ticket for around 620$ on Delta. I have been keeping an eye on those flights and today was the day I guess :) happy traveling
Perhaps that's a great price if you wish to fly to Rome in August. Can't imagine the temperatures then.
From the sound of your reply I think you need a vacation ?
It looks like they have great deals for our trip in September/October too. Unfortunately, we already booked with American. An $800 + fare from Portland Oregon is pretty good.
Good fare from the east coast, not so good from my west coast airport $1050-$1240, flexible dates in the month of August on Delta.
Thanks for the alert though for those who can take advantage of a great east coast summer fare.
Airline deals are very origin-destination and date/time specific (it's not clear where you're flying from but I bet it's not Providence). Timing is everything, including when to take the plunge. Very hard to replicate if you're coming from somewhere else. I think the first poster was trying to simply say that August is not an optimal month due to extreme heat and humidity...I don't think you'll hear many arguments on that.
We used to live in SWFL Naples ..very hot. No the flight is leaving out of Boston... My last flight in April was RT Non stop 520$ since I travel a lot I always keep looking for flights. Btw I also fly to Germany for 250 euros one way..one just needs to look for good deals.
Appears that I'll be looking for RT Chicago/Rome non-stop for February or March 2017. Only have probably 9 days, going to stay put & experience Rome, only spent 2+ days there six years ago, barely scratched the surface. May do a day trip to Orvieto but that would be it.
So many schools of thought as to when's the sweet spot for reserving cheapest tickets. 10-12 weeks out worked nicely for an open jaw flight last year (to Paris, out of Naples) but given the time of year and limited days abroad, I'd really like a nonstop for wife & myself, hope I don't have to splurge to do so. Doesn't matter which airline, except for Lufthansa they're all kind of terrible from a creature comfort standpoint.
Any advice when to fire in?
Thanks Suzanne. I just booked open jaw SFO-Zurich-Rome for October for $790 RT which I think is great. No reason to hold off till later.
Nice find! From Boston non-stop R/T that is a fantastic price!
I was watching prices for RT Detroit-Paris in October (Air France) for a month or so. Wednesday is always the cheapest flight. The range was $1535 - $1400 but one day it was halved to $750. I had set up an alert in Expedia to tell me when prices changed. It's smart to act quickly because the price jumped the next day.
I would rather be in Rome at a 100 than Whitefish at 70 degrees.
I just had time to look at my confirmed tickets and it says business class. Did the upgrade fairy swing over since this always was a bucket list wish? Can they change it again or does the confirmed ticket stand?
Jay someone had the idea to set an alert and watch the fares. I am leaving 3rd week of august ..this was the cheapest I have found them. These are non stop as well. I always like Lufthansa but they strike a lot so you can get stuck lol
Check the reviews on Delta 'flat-bed' seats, Susanne. No doubt it will be way better than a cramped economy chair, which I've taken both ways on both European flights, results of which were somewhere between marginally tolerable and horrendous. The reviewers are talking about 'sleep quality', with some complaining about their feet being in a cone below the seat in front of them. I would've literally killed for a seat like that. Did you have miles that upgraded you? That is an absolutely tremendous price!
I also have sleep apnea, thus haven't really been able to fall asleep without the machine. I have heard in some business & first class now that there are docking stations for a CPAP. Sure would be nice to sleep on the overnight to Europe--we usually leave around 6PM Central and arrive around 9AM wherever in Europe, and without sleep, besides eating that first day is more or less shot.
I usually get better prices on Mon evening or Tuesday. However, on Friday I booked RT JFK to Palermo for 60K points..which allowed me to upgrade to comfort class for $200. I depart Sept. 9. I check the flights daily for the best deals. When I first started my inquiry in February the same flight was $1,700. or 120K points. If you are flexible you will have greater success at getting a better rate.
I too am very happy.

Susanne,
If you paid for those tickets I wouldn't get my hopes up that they accidentally bump you 2 spots from economy to business
Curious is the flight on Delta or Alitalia?
I looked today for sept and saw similar costs on delta for rt non stop Boston to Rome but they were not Delta flights
If Alitalia unless a delta member already it might be better to book directly on Alitalia's website
I do not fly a lot and once I book I never look at the cost of flights again. I should not have looked at this post, I could have saved a ton of $$. Last trip with kids school and sports schedules though. Hubby has to apply 8-9 months in advance to get vacation dates though. Great deal for you! Nothing goes nonstop from Portland.
My ticket says business class . So I think they would have to honor my ticket? Maybe they ran out of economy seats and bumped me :)
I thought I had a good deal and now I'm not so sure. My ticket was open jaw I'm October. It is non stop to Rome from Miami and then return from Ireland to Ft Lauderdale And its with Delta who I love to travel with
I am so looking forward to my trip. I will attend Mass with Pope Francis in attendance and celebrate 2 years Cancer Free☺️
Margarte I am so happy for you. You will have a blast :) Happy traveling
