Good clean hotels in Rome

we are looking for a good clean basic hotel, preferably in the old part/Campo fiori/Pantheon area. Any of the three would be fine. Any reccomendations will be greatly appreciated. thanks, JCM

Sorry Donna, Kinda stupid of me. In rome March 8/9, 4people/2rooms, hoping for something @100-120 Euro. I found 2 doubles in hotel giardino for 130 euro, but I am not familiar with prices during this time of year, and the quoted price was the same as their website price. Shou8ld prices be softer this early in the spring? Thanks again, JCM

Hi Jeff. Would you consider an apartment in the Piazza Navona/Campo de Fiori area? The location is excellent & apartments tend to be roomier & less money than a hotel. We stayed at the Palazzo Olivia apartments & loved it. You can see the reviews on Trip Advisor.

Try using venere.com and tripadvisor.com in your search. Each site provides hotels, pricing, map locations, and client reviews. I have used both many times and they are very dependable. Buon viaggio,

We just returned from Rome and stayed at the Hotel Lillium on the Via Veneto. 58A Via September is the address, the rooms are all painted in pastel colors and are very clean, most come with a bath tub/shower combo, the staff is very helpful, they have a nice breakfast in a very cute breakfast room, it is just a few blocks from the Termini station but it is not near the Pantheon unless you will do what we did, walk. I think we paid 93 Euro per night? Here is the hotel's website: www.lilliumhotel.it

I second the vote for Palazzo Olivia. A two-bedroom apartment will cost less than 2 hotel rooms.

March is a busier time of year so you might not find a hotel in the city center for that price. You can try the Hotel Forum. I've had friends who've stayed there and they love it. You may want to use venere.com and check in the termini or vatican areas. You might also want to check out apartments. Depending on how long you stay you will probably find a bigger apartment for the same or less than for a hotel. You can use venere.com for those as well and also check slowtravel.com for reviews. If you decide to get an apartment carefully read what is included with the rental. Also make sure to study the pictures and don't take anything for granted. For example: If the picture of the kitchen doesn't show an oven don't assume it's on the other side of the kitchen. It usually means they don't have one. Donna

In 2006 we stayed at Hotel Smeraldo which is very close to Campo di Fiori. We found the Smeraldo to be fine. Rooms smallish but very nice with lots of marble and good A/C. In 2002 we stayed at Hotel Italia which is located off Via Nazionale and closer to the Coliseum. Rooms were fine here too with A/C and ceiling fans. Very friendly and helpful reception here.

Jeff, Here are two other sites to look for apartments. We have used the first last march, easy to work with, and are looking to use the second this comming year. They are: "sleep in italy.it and homes in rome.com. On the second site, try the Pantheon apt. the Narvona and the Campo de Fiore.
Have fun planning
