We will be staying in a villa outside of Volterra for two weeks at the end of June. We are flying into Pisa and will be renting a car as I understand Volterra is not great for public transportation connections. We would like to spend a day at the beach with our three teens...can anyone recommend a good beach for an easy day trip? Thanks!

Tirrenia is very nice. You have to pay for parking, access to the beach, and umbrellas (if you want one). I've heard there is one public/free beach access point, but unfortunately I don't know the specifics of where it is. Perhaps you could ask a TI for more information. But once you are on the beach, you can walk along all the access points, the sand is super soft, seashells are plentiful, and the water is clean and nice. It's very popular with Italians. From Volterra it would be an hour (or so) away. There might be somewhere closer. But I do recommend this area. Enjoy!
