- Don’t keep your passport in your pocket, and keep a copy at your hotel.
- Give yourself time to get back to the airport you’ll fly out of.
- Taking the boat/ferry in CT is a treat.
- Plan every little move-town to town, hotel to hotel and appropriate transport.
- For secure cards and cash a PacSafe or Travelon purse is advised.
- Levanto is more peaceful than the Cinque Terre. Also recommended are Lucca, Volterra, and Santa Marghertia Ligure.
- Check for harvest (grape) festivals in Pienza.
- Press the STOP button when you’re tired, slow down, sit at an outside café and nurse a glass of wine, or take a nap.
- Rental cars for drives through Tuscany are available at the Hertz office across the street from the train station in Orvieto.
- Enjoy the CT towns in the early morning or late afternoon after the day crowds have returned home.
- Recommendation: stay in the historical district in Rome.
- Apertivo is served from about 5-7 PM.
- A good guide is the DK Eyewitness book: Backroads Northern Italy.
- Monterosso is a good home base in the CT because you can easily take the train or ferry there to the other villages.
- In Rome try to visit the Campo de Fiori marketplace and Travestervere market near Roma Termini.

- Great restaurants in Rome: Carlo Menta, Le Mani , Tonnarello. Don’t go at 9:00 PM, that is the busiest time.
