Good Advice Received for 50th Anniversary Trip

  1. Don’t keep your passport in your pocket, and keep a copy at your hotel.
  2. Give yourself time to get back to the airport you’ll fly out of.
  3. Taking the boat/ferry in CT is a treat.
  4. Plan every little move-town to town, hotel to hotel and appropriate transport.
  5. For secure cards and cash a PacSafe or Travelon purse is advised.
  6. Levanto is more peaceful than the Cinque Terre. Also recommended are Lucca, Volterra, and Santa Marghertia Ligure.
  7. Check for harvest (grape) festivals in Pienza.
  8. Press the STOP button when you’re tired, slow down, sit at an outside café and nurse a glass of wine, or take a nap.
  9. Rental cars for drives through Tuscany are available at the Hertz office across the street from the train station in Orvieto.
  10. Enjoy the CT towns in the early morning or late afternoon after the day crowds have returned home.
  11. Recommendation: stay in the historical district in Rome.
  12. Apertivo is served from about 5-7 PM.
  13. A good guide is the DK Eyewitness book: Backroads Northern Italy.
  14. Monterosso is a good home base in the CT because you can easily take the train or ferry there to the other villages.
  15. In Rome try to visit the Campo de Fiori marketplace and Travestervere market near Roma Termini.

  18. Great restaurants in Rome: Carlo Menta, Le Mani , Tonnarello. Don’t go at 9:00 PM, that is the busiest time.
