Are there any specific times when the gondoliers start to take tourists on a gondola ride? My husband and I plan to go to mass at St. Mark's on a Sunday and scheduled to leave the next day at noon so we only have Monday morning to take a gondola ride/tour. I read that you can get a gondola anywhere but I haven't seen any comments about the time. -annie
They go whenever they get a fare. It doesn't matter the time. Donna
I was recently in Venice and we didn't book. Just pitched up at a location just off St Mark's Square and got on a gondola straightaway. There were only a few people around waiting to get on gondolas. It was mid morning, mid week. Dont know if it would be different at other times.
Thanks a lot Donna and Katy for the info! Guess my husband and I will have to wait until we get there. :) -annie
We were out wandering as early as 7 in the morning in May and saw them already taking passengers around. The fares are higher after dark so more probably prefer the evening rides, but there were also some early birds out.
