I know........There are so many other things to do in Tuscany! But my husband LOVES to golf. And this is our 35th Anniversary celebration, so I would like to do something special for him. We will be spending 3 nights in Florence & 6 nights in Montepulciano. We will also have a car. Any suggestions as to where he could play a memorable round of golf would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!! :)
The first and most famous 18 hole in Tuscany:

(in the Chianti Hills, half hour from Florence)
This one is close to Montepulciano (I think only 9 holes):

Also not far from Montepulciano (1 hr drive) there is a 18 hole Golf resort (affiliated with Hilton Resort):

I'll give you also this one, in Maremma area (Province of Grosseto).
About 2 hours from Montepulciano:

I gave you the 3 best of Tuscany above. I'd go while you are in Montepulciano (La Bagnaia is the best in that area), because you don't have enough time in Florence to waste time playing golf. There is too much too see in Florence and 3 nights are not enough. Also you shouldn't rent a car while you are in Florence. You should rent it when you get out of town to go to Montepulciano. A car while in Florence is a hassle.
Thank you Roberto!
I apologize for not providing enough information. We spent 6 days in Florence last June, so we won't be touring museums, etc. At the end of our trip, we made it over the river to the Oltrano district. We found it to be so much less congested, w/quite a few art studios/workshops. So we're going be staying there for just a few days. Golfing while in Florence is a real possibility.
We're also planning to take a train to a town slightly out of Florence, where hopefully we will be renting a car until the last 2 days of our trip. Then hopefully returning the car near Assisi, and taking the train back to Rome the afternoon before we fly home.
Thanks again for the recommendations! :)
Not sure where this town "slightly" out of Florence would be. Major rental car companies are located only in some major towns in Tuscany.
These are the ones in central/Eastern Tuscany:
Europcar (number of Locations): Florence (3), Arezzo (1), Siena (1), Prato (1), Montecatini (1), Chiusi (1)
Hertz (number of Locations): Florence (3), Arezzo (1), Siena (1), Figline Valdarno (1), Sesto Fiorentino IKEA (1), Chiusi (1)
Closest to Assisi:
Europcar (locations): Perugia Airport (1), Foligno (1)
Hertz (locations): Perugia Airport (1)
If you do not intend to return the car in Rome, then near Assisi, Foligno (with Europcar) is the best, because the IC trains on the Ancona-Rome line stop in Foligno. If you rent from Hertz, then it's best to return it in Orvieto.
For the pick up, I would pick up in Florence and drive to Montepulciano. However Figline, Arezzo, and Chiusi are somewhat along the way or not too far from Montepulciano.
