Going to Venice? Recommend B&B Corte Campana, plus some other things we enjoyed.

Just an informal unpaid endorsement if you're looking for a place to stay. Clean, comfy, good location, with friendly and helpful hosts. There are some steps, though, but there is a small elevator available up one set (we never used it). We had a very good experience.

Also recommend the restaurants al Portego and al Vecio Canton. Friendly, busy, casual, and yummy. We were not impressed with al Mariner.

For a gondola, we were lucky to get a chatty gondolier at Campo Santa Maria Nova. Quiet canals and a brief stint on the Grand Canal under the Rialto. There's a handy sandwich and spritz place on the campo too!

Take a quiet walk in Dorsoduro near the gondola repair shop. A peaceful break.

If Venezia FC is playing: the stadium is on the island, easy to get to, and was not packed. The crowd was friendly with kids around. You need your passport to get in and you can buy tickets at the team shop near Rialto. We saw the Alps from our seats! Tell your Corte Campana hosts that you're going to the game to get some street cred.

January in Venice was great- no lines. Biggest issue was that some restaurants were closed for vacation. Including the Venice Jazz Club, which bummed me out.

We stayed with Riccardo and Grace in March 2023 and also highly recommend! We got a triple room with the private bath and it was plenty of room for me, husband, and 16 year old son. My in-laws were with us and got one of the doubles. The location was great and R & G went above and beyond--from helping track a lost bag to walking us to the vaporetto stop at 7:30 AM on departure morning to make sure we got tickets to the train station okay. They provide excellent communication and directions via email and WhatsApp. Can't wait to return to Venice and will definitely stay at Corte Campana again!

I stayed at B&B Corte Campana four nights in September 2022 in their Dei Fradèi room. Grace and Riccardo are lovely people, very helpful and informative. Down a quiet street and in a court yard, it is close to San Marco but without the tourist crunch. The elevator starts one stair flight up, but the only time I took it was when I carried luggage. Otherwise I walked the four flights up (and down). I definitely recommend B&B Corte Campana and plan to stay there again next year. https://www.cortecampana.com/

Thanks for the restaurant recommendations. I've made note of them. What was the weather like in January? I'm planning to go to Venice early next year and debating how early is too early.

We arrived in Venice on January 19th, and it was windy and cold- around 38F. However, the next three days were sunny and calm- around 45F. It was pleasant and people were sitting outside for lunch and chatting. Know that we live on Lake Erie, so we can deal with some weather and that was fine for us.
