Going to see A.C. Milan play

Going to Italy in August and I really want to see my favorite football club play. So how do I go about buying tickets to a home game? Should I do it before I leave or is it better to buy them there?

Thanks

Hi AJ, I haven't actually bought tickets before but this is what I know: the club offers an online ticketing service via its official website, solely for ticket buyers who don't live in Italy. It seems that only tickets for the games immediately coming up are available though. But it means that you could buy tickets just before you leave for Italy. There are ticketing booths at the San Siro stadium and I believe that all over Italy, you can also get tickets at the banks under the Banca Intesa Sanpaolo group - a list is provided on the AC Milan website.

Bad news AJ. The Italian soccer season doesn't start until September and runs to May. The next best thing would be to take the excellent stadium tour of San Siro. You'll get to hang out in AC Milan and Inter's dressing rooms, visit the museum, and the gift shop.

PS the classico Inter Milan v Ac Milan starts in 60 minutes...live on Fox Soccer Channel!

Do any other stadiums offer tours, like Roma or Fiorentina

To my knowledge only Milan does the stadium tours:(

Hmm yes, that's right, season starts in Sept. But isn't there an annual Milan v Juventus 'friendly' game just before the season starts? That might be in late August which may work for AJ if he's there then. I tried to visit the San Siro when I was in Milan some years ago, called the stadium to check opening times and was told it'd be open, but when I arrived, the stadium was closed for maintenance and they refused to let me in. Ah well, that's Italy.

Do any other stadiums offer tours, like Roma or Fiorentina? My husband is a big soccer fan but we will be in Italy after the season ends in June. Also, how much is the stadium tour in Milan? His favorite team is actually AC Milan but we were't planning on stopping in Milan this trip...we might change plans though, the tour sounds great! Thanks

Yes, there are exhibitions in August, but they're typically not played in Milan. In fact, the AC Milan V Juventus style exhibitions are usually held outside the country in places like New York City, China, and Japan.

Do AC Milan still play in December??? I will be there around Christmas time through January 7th.

Indeed, the big clubs play each other in exhibition games in 'foreign lands' to earn big bucks - isn't that what the game's about these days? - but Milan and Juve do play an annual friendly game at the San Siro just before the season starts, where they do battle for the Luigi Berlusconi Trophy - named for club president Silvio's dad.

Last year's game took place on 17 August. You can find match reports of recent editions through a google search. I reckon the best bet is to keep track of upcoming games and season/ pre-season schedules through the AC Milan site.
