Going to Pisa from Florence...

Should I book my train tickets and my Pisa tickets beforehand? We leave Rome in the morning and upon arrival in Florence and dropping off our luggage I want to go to Pisa that afternoon. What should we do?

Thanks

Buy your tickets at the train station the same day. There's a train information office by track 5, and they'll give you the next train stopping at Pisa (most stop at Pisa). You'll have lots of options.

We'd checked the Trenitalia site beforehand to see the schedule and estimated price, and we were pleased to get assistance at the info office (mentioned above) and discover the price was much lower. Regional trains are the way to go on this trip.

Very easy to do. Did it last summer and you can purchase your train tkts once at the Florence station. I believe all the trains from Florence to Pisa are regionale so there is no choice. If your train stops at PI S.RT (Pisa S. Rossore) station, which is the next station past Pisa C. (centrale), it is only about a 4 block walk to the tower. We did this last summer and then took the bus back to centrale train station to go back to Florence. Just check the intermediate stops the train makes either online or when you purchase your tkts. As far as booking your tower tkt in advance--booked in advance online for our visit last summer in mid-July and it was very easy to do. Did not book in advance on a mid-June 2002 visit and waited a few hrs. to get a time. When are planning on going?
