Going to Italy in Two Weeks from Now--Last Minute Itinerary Tips?

My husband and I are traveling to Italy in 2 weeks. Our total travel time is 11 days with 9 nights in Italy. We have received help from some of you and have revised our plans accordingly. Any more suggestions for the following itinerary?

(1)—Fly to Pisa from US
(2)—Arrive in Pisa / Stay in CT--Montorosso
(3)—Stay in CT--Montorosso
(4)—Train to Florence / Stay in Florence (near Uffizi Gallery)
(5)—Rent car to Montepulciano / Stay in Montepulciano
(6)—Stay in Montepulciano
(7)—Stay in Montepulciano
(8)—Return to Florence / Train from Florence to Venice / Stay in Venice
(9)—Stay in Venice
(10)—Stay in Venice
(11)—Fly home from Venice

We are debating whether to stay in Florence at all. And, if we do, does it make more sense to stay in Florence prior to leaving for 3 nights in Montepulciano or after we return from Montepulciano? On our first night in Venice, we are fine with arriving in Venice by train as late as possible, so does it make more sense to be in Florence the night before we leave for Venice so we would have a place to store our luggage in Florence for the day?

Thanks so much for your advice, Ken.

Here is my revised itinerary:

(1)--Fly to Pisa from US
(2)—Arrive in Pisa / Train to Montorosso / Stay in CT--Montorosso
(3)—Stay in CT--Montorosso
(4)—Train to La Spezia / Rent car in La Spezia and drive to Montepulciano / Stay in Montepulciano
(5)—Stay in Montepulciano
(6)—Stay in Montepulciano
(7)—Drive to Florence airport to drop off car / train or taxi to Uffizi area / Stay in Florence (near Uffizi)
(8)—Stay in Florence
(9)—Stay in Venice
(10)—Stay in Venice
(11)—Fly home from Venice

What do you think is the best way to get from the airport in Florence to the area around the Uffizi gallery?

We are in the process of getting the driving permit. Any other tips?

Ken--one other question--looks like there might be a couple of routes from La Spezia to Montepulciano by car--is there one you recommend?

Laura,

Your proposed Itinerary looks well organized, however a few comments.

I'd suggest spending more time in Florence. It's a wonderful city and really deserves more than one night. You might consider dropping one day each from Montepulciano and/or Venice, and adding at least one night to Florence.

Regarding your last paragraph, either choice would work. You could (for example) rent a car in La Spezia after you leave Monterosso, drive to Montepulciano and then drop the car at the airport in Florence. I suggested the airport so that you don't have any "issues" with ZTL zones.

Can't recall if I mentioned it previously, but don't forget the compulsory International Driver's Permit for driving in Italy, which must be used in conjunction with your home D.L. A GPS unit would be a really good idea also, along with a good Map (I use Michelin).

Happy travels!
