My partner and I would like to visit the Sistine Chapel on a Friday night when it is open late. It appears that St. Peter's Basicilla closes at 19:00. We would like to know if we would be able to visit the Basicila first, then walk over to the Sistine Chapel (or, since I am disabled, hopefully follow a tour group in their more direct route connecting the Basicila and the Sistine Chapel. Thank you.
Suggest you check vatican.va under services for disabled visitors at the museums, and also look for something like that in the basilica section of the website. Unless you find something like that, there's no way I know of to go backwards from basilica to museums, without walking around a relatively long, slightly uphill few blocks to get to the museums entrance. And there's no way to get to the Sistine Chapel without walking a long ways through the museums (again, unless there's something special for disabled visitors). You may want to arrange for a wheelchair at the museums because it is a long walk to the chapel.
The only way to get to the Sistine chapel is to go through the vatican museums. There is no route from the basilica to the chapel. You must go from the basilica to the front of the museums and then take the half hour walk from the front of the museums to the chapel. There is a route for those with mobility problems and you can get that route from the vatican website or at the museums but you cannot back track from the basilica into the chapel. http://mv.vatican.va/3_EN/pages/z-Info/MV_Info_Mappa.html http://mv.vatican.va/3_EN/pages/z-Info/MV_Info_Servizi.html Donna
