going from Florence to Varenna, with possible side trip to Ferrari museum

Hi,
My family and I will be traveling to Florence in July, and will be going from there to Varenna/Bellaggio. Any advice on transportation between the two areas? We would like to make a stop in Maranello on the way to see the Ferrari museum. I have not been able to find a car rental that lets us pick up in Florence and drop off in the Varenna area.

Thanks!

There are no car rental offices in Varenna. The major rental agencies have offices in the town of Como (bottom of the lake on the other side, served by trains to Switzerland) or at Milan's Malpensa or Linate airports.

If visiting Maranello without a car, you can take a shuttle bus from Modena train station. It also serves Ferrari's second museum in Modena, or that one is walkable to/from the train station.

Keep in mind that high-speed Freccia trains don't stop in Modena, and the intercity or regional trains that do stop in Modena take 1.5-2.5 hours longer to make the trip from Bologna to Milan. Trains times between Florence-Bologna and Milan-Varenna won't vary.
