Going from Amsterdam to Florence

There aren't many options to fly from Amsterdam to Florence, and they seem expensive. Is it better idea to fly to Rome and then take a train? I'm not in any hurry.

Only KLM is allowed to fly AMS-FLR, probably a choice dictated by the company managing both Pisa and Florence airports (Toscana Aeroporti), so KLM has a monopoly on that market.

Try EasyJet or Transavia to Pisa. Bologna also has only KLM flying from AMS, but check that option just in case.

When you compare prices, however, consider that flying to those airports will entail having to take trains or buses to Florence for an additional 90 to 120 min travel time. The cost of the ground transportation from Pisa shouldn’t be more than 15€ between people mover and train. From Bologna it is more expensive due to the pricier people mover to the station and the use of expensive high speed trains. In any case it shouldn’t cost you more than 40€-45€ per person from Bologna to Florence, maybe a bit less if you take the Appennino Shuttle bus.

Take all of the above in consideration (extra cost and extra time) then decide what you think is best for you.

Thank you! I found a direct flight to Pisa (for 1/3rd the cost of the flight to Florence)
