I'd like to beat the heavy crowds by going to the either the Roman Forum or Pantheon early in the morning. If you could only choose one to do early, which would it be?

Depending on what Season you'll be in Rome, during warmer months (Jun-Sep) I'd certainly do the Forum early, due to it being outside in the direct heat. While the Pantheon can get crowded from Ten O'Clock-on, it is an indoors attraction which serves to protect from the really hot part of the day. Plus, I think you get better views/photos of light coming thru its opening as the sun moves more directly overhead.
Thanks. I'm in Rome now.
The Pantheon is small. At best it is a 30 min hit so do the Forum first because you can spend a half day there easily.
Forum, because it covers much more ground and gets busier after tourists who've been to the Colosseum move on: the Forum is usually their 2nd choice.
It's nice to see the Pantheon when the place isn't packed with folks. We had to wait a few minutes for it to open and had the place more or less to ourselves for a while. Thoroughly cool.
I did the Forum first, definitely the right call.
Hey Scott! Glad that worked out for you!
Hope you are enjoying my favorite city. :O)
The Forum first, we found that it took us several hours working our way through it. While, the Pantheon is 30 minutes max.
