Going Crazy Without Your Book!!

Ok. I’ll admit it. This isn’t the 1st time I’ve felt lost and alone without your book. It happened before in Austria, but a nice American lady on the streets on downtown Salzburg, took pity and handed me HER own copy of Germany/Austria since she was leaving the next day. I felt like I had my best friend back with me once again!
Now, it’s happened AGAIN! Last night, in Florence...I somehow lost my much loved, much read, dog eared...highlighted and carefully noted travel guide on Italy 2018...and I’m only 3 days into my trip. I know this is going to cost me dearly, but knowing there won’t be another angel on the street to save me, where do y’all advise getting a copy of Rick Steve’s Italy 2018...in English...in Florence or Siena? Please answer as soon as possible, as I feel so lost. Seriously!

Do you have a tablet or Kindle? Download the guide book. I usually wind up with both paper and e-book. I do my planning at home with the paper book but use the ebook on the road as it's lighter and fairly easy to use if you are just looking up something specific.

Look at your hotel as well. If you booked a hotel Rick recommends there will likely be a bookshelf somewhere with guidebooks on it!

Feltrinelli bookstore is also a possibility, although the publisher does not mention the Florence location on it's list (only says Milan and Rome).

RS recommends tearing sections out of his books which I think this is great idea to prevent this kind of thing. I actually copy pages from my own book or the library's and divide by location and put in separate, labeled ziploc bags. each destination has its own bag and I throw away the pages when I'm done with a particular area.

There are two stores in Florence that usually have a good selection of Rick's guidebooks. Both are near the Duomo. One is Paperback Exchange on Via delle Oche, same street as Grom Gelateria. The other is the Feltrinelli store on Via de' Cerretani (go to 2nd floor), about 2 blocks from the Baptistry in direction of train station. The Feltrinelli stores on Piazza della Repubblica and at the train station usually have a smaller selection.

EDIT: There's also an IBS bookstore on Via de' Cerretani, a block before the Feltrinelli store, but don't recall seeing a lot of Rick's books there.

If you have a smartphone or iPad with you, know that the kindle app is free. Then you can go to amazon and buy the ebook.

I find ebooks good for travel - carry it with you and read wherever, no risk of loosing it, less weight, can bring 100 different books if you want. At home I do prefer to read regular books, but the advantages for travel are so worth it.
