Go-Phones purchased in Italy?

We are traveling to Milan Malpensa Airport in March 2015. We would like to purchase an inexpensive phone on arrival for emergency purposes only. Does anyone have information or suggestions?

Thank you!

You can go to the Malpensa Airport website and find a list of shops. If you already have an unlocked quad band phone, you can just get a SIM card for cheap (15 euro with 30 minutes of time already loaded if my memory serves) at many "Tabacs (news stands that sell cigarettes, newspapers, etc).

If you are going to Milano Centrale train station, there is a TIM store at the station where you can buy a cheap phone. You will need your passport or national identification for purchase. The phone comes with a few free minutes, you can add more as you need them.

Please don't throw it away when you have finished with it - it contains dangerous materials and it is illegal in Europe so to do. WEEE applies throughout Europe, including Italy.

I concur with Nigel, please, it is far better for the environment if you just purchase a chip for your phone from a provider once you are there. There is a TIM store right in Milano Centrale, and if you are not going there, they are everywhere as well as Vodafone and Wind. The employees will switch out your chip for you. Save your old one so you can put it back in when u get back home.

Sorry I should have worded the entry differently. We never throw away phones. We always donate them to the men and women serving in our military :). We do not have the type of phone that has a removable chip. Just looking to purchase something inexpensive, in case of an emergency. I like being phone-free on vacation.
