Go-Opti from Venice Marco Polo to Trieste??

We will be flying from England to Venice, en route to Ljubljana, arriving at Marco Polo Airport at @ 4:30 pm. Allowing for baggage delays and other potential problems, i.e., delayed flight, I'd thought to continue our journey at @6. But, it takes 4 hours to get to Ljubljana and this would be a terribly long day...arriving after 10 pm would not be a great way to begin vacation...
especially after sitting thru a train ride and a flight...

So - we are thinking of traveling half way, from Marco Polo to Trieste, a 2 hr trip. (we've enjoyed Trieste in the past and would plan to stay for 2 nites)

I checked Go-Opti and they do travel Marco Polo - Trieste and it seems that, for a higher price, they will guarantee pick-up times. Has anyone had experience with Go-Opti and would you recommend them?

Or - is there a better idea???

Thank you!!

You can compare the price of a GoOpti guaranteed pick-up with a direct bus with FlixBus (I see one at 5:35p and also at 6:05p some days) or taking a local bus to Mestre train station and taking the train to Trieste. Up to you. There are plenty of ways to get to Trieste.

There's a long TripAdvisor thread with numerous reviews of GoOpti, on the Slovenia forum. Local Slovenes seem to like it but several tourists have mentioned them positively as well.

I took GoOpti from Venice airport to Ljubljana and it was excellent for me. It didn't take 4 hours. Maybe 3 including a bathroom break. The only thing that was unexpected was that the original vehicle didn't take me all the way to my hotel in Ljubljana. The shuttle pulled into a bus stop in the outskirts of Ljubljana and put me into a cab who did take me to my hotel with no additional cost for me. I don't know if they do this every time but on my transfer several people in the van were continuing on to Zagreb or other destinations. I would definitely recommend them and would use them again. Let me know if that makes sense or if you have more questions.

schase2001, what time was your flight arrival (if you still remember)? Were you on time? What time did you originally choose for your pick-up, and how close was that to the actual time GoOpti eventually sent you? Did you choose the "guaranteed airport pick-up" option?

Someday I will use GoOpti - but I do wonder about the airport connection, the uncertainty vs. extra potential cost...

Andrew, thank you for the wealth of information you share on the site - your knowledge of Slovenia is amazing! I have read the reviews of Flixbus and so many are abysmal (truly dreadful) that I eliminated this as an option; Go Option does get generally very good reviews but I've not been able to confirm that one can pay a bit extra for a confirmed time. Hopefully, one of our fellow travelers will help here. IAgain - thank you!!

We’ve used Go-Opti twice and both times were very positive experiences. Having taken FlixBus, too, I would definitely choose Go-Opti after a long flight. From their website -

The Private transfer is a completely private ride on one of our our standard routes. It is the best solution for businesses and individuals who wish to enjoy a private drive at a reasonable price. The departure or arrival time is set by the customer at booking and the price is instantly confirmed.

*The refundable option entitles you to a full refund if you cancel the transfer at least 48 hours in advance.

I had a great experience twice with GoOpti earlier this month (June). First, I arranged pick-up at the Ljubljana airport for a specific time, to take me to my Ljubljana hotel. However, my plane was running late leaving Sarajevo, so I called GoOpti from the Sarajevo airport. They assured me that they would track my flight and transportation would be available for me from the Ljubljana airport, and it was. Next, I arranged GoOpti from my Ljubljana hotel to Venice. I was picked up at 7:00 am and we were at Venice Marco Polo airport at 10:00 am, and that was with a 15 minute bathroom break. Four people got out at the airport, and four of us went on to Piazzale Roma in Venice, which took another 20 minutes. I would suggest making sure that you have a telephone that works in Italy so that you can call/text GoOpti if your plane is running late. I would also suggest re-thinking that stop in Trieste, if that city is not your highest priority. For another 90 minutes or so of riding, you could be at your hotel doorstep in Ljubljana, if that is really where you want to be, on your first morning on the continent. Have a great time! Ljubljana is beautiful!! Oh... and GoOpti gives you options, on their website, about the pick-up time window. The narrower the window you want, the higher the cost. I don't recall if this was the case on airport pickups or not. I found the website easy to understand and navigate.

The service from GoOpti sounds wonderful, far more than I would have expected. I've now booked travel directly from Venice to Ljub - and am so looking forward to going. Many, many thanks!!!
