I will be travelling to Milan and Varenna. I need gluten free food. Can people recommend restaurants in either city with good gluten free food? I am particularly interested in restaurants with GF food that are hard to find elsewhere. For example, in Philadelphia I found a restaurant with GF tempura. Are there restaurants like that in Milan or Varenna? Thank you.

You can ask the restaurants for gluten free options (SENZA GLUTINE).
Italy, the land of pasta, believe it or not has a very large celiacs population and Italy is at the vanguard in gluten free products and research. Most restaurants will have options for gluten intolerant people.
I don't know if there are restaurants which specialize on gluten free exclusively. Certainly not in a small village like Varenna. Maybe there might be one in Milan.
There are many menu options that are gluten free, I don't think you will have issues...I was surprised how many gluten free options I saw on menus.
I also look for gluten-free options for a gluten intolerance. Almost any restaurant will be able to accommodate you. Some restaurants prefer a day's notice for gluten-free pastas, but you can work around that easily.
At many restaurants, the chef will come to your table to explain choices.
I have Celiac. Italy will be easier than almost anywhere else you'll travel, and you'll have more options than you expect. Enjoy!
Thank you to everyone who replied. I appreciate it!! :-)
