Gluten Free Restaurant Suggestions

My wife has celiac's and I understand that Italy is very accommodating. I've been looking at lots of places but want to hear from my fellow RSers who I trust!

Does anyone out there have great gf restaurant recs for Venice, Florence, Positano, and Rome?

I don't have specific restaurants to recommend, but many of the restaurants that I've been to in Venice, Florence, and Rome have "gluten free" sections of their menus, or have a note at the bottom of the menu that "gluten free pastas/pizzas available." Almost all restaurants seem to post their menus on boards or on the wall outside the restaurants, so if you haven't yet finalized your choices, you can browse some once you are there. Many also post their menus on-line, and tripadvisor posters often include many photos of the restaurants, including photos of menus.

Yes, this is a frequently asked question, so do read the prior threads, which will have lots of tips. You're right, apparently awareness of celiac disease is very high in Italy, since the incidence of it is also high.

My main tip is not to think of gluten free restaurants - you're very unlikely to find these. Instead, look for gluten free items at restaurants, gelaterie, bakeries, pharmacies, etc.

Yes, pharmacies. As indicated in this New York Times article, they stock gluten free items, although at a higher price than other places: https://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/29/travel/gluten-free-dining-in-italy.html

Hello, I made a post titled, "Travel report for gluten free and dairy free eating in Italy". It was posted in the forum on 9/28/19. I just tried to copy and paste it here but not able to re-post it. If you have questions or need more info, please ask!

Many restaurants in Italy have codes on the menu. Might say 1-(vegetarian) 2-(eggs) 3-( gluten free) etc.
Look for restaurants with those type of menus.

I appreciate all the advice here. But I suppose I should have specified. Are there any people who have specific recommendations of particular restaurants with great gf meals?
