Global Warming and Italy

Has " Global Warming " had an effect in Italy? Jim ;-)

I was there last year at Easter and the week after and froze my A$$ off. Cold, wind, raining sideways.

I'm not sure if this is a troll post or what, but understand that global warming is not the same as weather. Global warming means that the overall temperature of the earth is increasing, as measured over a very long period of time. This increase is most measureable and statistically significant at the poles. Global warming can and will impact, among other things, weather patterns, but not necessarily in a "warming" pattern.

We could use a little global warming right now, it's so cold here I'm freezing my cannoli off.

Sorry Douglas, I meant if it would have an effect on the weather in Italy. As if there is a change in the weather patterns. I'm Not sure about a "troll Post " I guess it means a fake post???? Once again sorry for the bad phrasing of the question. Thanks for the replies!! Jim

Difficult question, the climate change there has been here in northern Italy, this is undeniable, but I think it's more due to microclimatic factors, such as high human activity and the construction of many heated homes and warehouses.

A troll posting is someone who throws up a question that will generate a lot of worthless discussion because there are not any good answers for the question. Just a lot of opinions.

I was once there in Summer and just about burned up. I like how the air conditioners in Florence have timers on them (regulated by the government) to save electricity. Mid Summer's not the preferred time of the year to visit Italy. Italians go to the beach on vacation for the month of August, leaving foreign tourists swarming in their hot cities.

"A troll posting is someone who throws up a question that will generate a lot of worthless discussion because there are not any good answers for the question. Just a lot of opinions." I would add, not just soliciting opinions but purposefully trying to raise controversy. Jim- I appologize for thinking you might be a troll. As you may know, not everyone "believes" in global warming and it seemed your post might be trying to raise a stink about it. Climate change does impact ocean temperatures, ocean currents (like the North Altantic Gulf Stream), polar ice and glaciers, which all have a significant effect on weather patterns. So it is possible Italy's unusually cold winters lately could have been the result of changes caused by global warming. I read recently that Western Europe had experienced warmer winters for the past few hundred years and that many scientists think winters there will be getting colder. But in general, it is incorrect to say a hot summer is global warming, or that global warming must not be real if you experience a super cold winter or blizzard. But I'll admit that I joke about how wonderful global warming is because Chicago has had several very mild winters...

This thread makes me think of how many times I've heard or read someone say "See Venice soon before it sinks." As if one day it's just going to plunge to the bottom of the lagoon. Venice has been sinking for centuries. The acqua alta will surely get worse, but it's not as if the whole city is going to pull an Atlantis. :-)
