Already have TSA precheck check, is it worth the extra money to get global entry
Hi troller, I think Global Entry is absolutely worth it! Our last trip (Sep 2016) we were in and out of the airport in minutes versus an hour or more. There are special kiosks and lines (short lines!) for GE. Do it!
I get one intl trip a year, but my husband travels a little more for business. For us it is absolutely worth every penny, because standing in that line after a long flight home is unbearable at our airport. Now we just scan our passports at a machine and exit the airport.
I think it depends greatly on your airport of entry back into the United States. We fly exclusively on Delta and always have TSA precheck. We have never had to wait more than 10 minutes coming back usually through Atlanta. The last time we flew home, in September from Rome into Atlanta, our line was shorter than the global entry line.
We swear by it. My mistake was getting the TSA first and then paying for GOES again afterwards. If you get GOES first it can be used for TSA without paying for it. At 100.00 for the 5 years. Even if you use it once a year. it works out to 20.00 per year. Worth the fast pass privilege. Especially for JFK airport.
When we where on the GOES line at US imagaration and customs in Dublin airport. They took us first, even before the line of pilots and flight attendants.
stumurray2--thanks for info-flying into Chicago from Rome-hoping TSA will be enough-have 2.5 hours to get through customs
Thanks all for info--getting global entry before the next trip
I used my Global last week entering through Denver. It was great until I went through security to get to my next flight. TSA precheck was closed. I got stuck in a long line. The agent gave me a song and dance answer when I asked why we pay for a service and don't get it.
You might want to investigate the Mobile Passport app. There have been a couple of discussions about MP on the Forum and most people seemed to find it worked well - in some cases got them through even faster than the Global Entry line. And it's free. Since you already paid for TSA Pre you might want to try MP once or twice before spending that $100 for GE.
It's free with some American Express cards. I just renewed ours last month. Paid with Amex both fees were automatically refunded in a day or two.
