More than months before the Tour de France, Italy’s grand bike tour started today, and it will be a three week spectacle. Today’s stage race is finishing in Turin/Torino, and the scenery on TV has been fantastic - it’s sure verdant in northwestern Italy today. Weather looks nice, too - not too hot, not too cold, based on how everyone’s dressed. There’s an amazing number of impressive old villas and palaces in the area, too, with riders passing at fast speeds.
Several spectators have been wearing or waving Sardinia flag images. Having been in Sardinia last week, those really stand out, and are easy for me to recognize. Regions are proud of their place in greater Italy. The baroque city of Turin is impressive, and huge, from the view atop a hill they just showed. I’ve passed through in a train, but it would make a longer visit worthwhile.
After looking at my options to watch the race, and with American broadcast and cable TV ignoring the Giro, I’ve paid $16 for the Max streaming service without ads. Watching it Live, you can’t pause or rewind. Tomorrow, I can rewatch, with pause, rewind, and fast-forward available. The captions won’t come up, though.
Vai, vai, vai!
