Giro d'Italia

We'll be in northern Italy during the Giro. anyone out there have tips about how to follow the race? Best to set our selves in a town, or along the route? How early to arrive to get a space in town? We'd like to see one stage only, we have 2 days to choose from May 29, 30 (I know May 28 is a rest day for the racers)
