Has anyone used this company? They provide self guided walking tours. Price includes accomodations, walking maps, transport, breakfasts.
Used girosole for independent walking in Umbria Italy (Assisi, spoleto, montefalco). It was not a good experience. They supplied the directions for the independent walks each day and they were AWFUL! Be prepared to be lost a lot and to be frustrated. The directions would use markers and street numbers/names that there were no signs for. Wished I had brought a pedometer so I could have followed the route by km. But...even with that, there were numerous wrong directions...sometimes telling you to turn the wrong way. Girosole contracts with a separate agency in each area of Italy to arrange these walks. The agency in Umbria needs to be fired. Stay away from this trip.
If you are looking for self guided walking tours in Italy I can recommend Nichols Expeditions. We've used them 3x for trips...mostly bike (and one to Peru, hiking the Inca trail) and we are going on their Umbria walking tour next year. http://nicholexpeditions.com/hiking-walking-tours/ Hotels were fantastic, routes amazing, maps and directions really good. Keep in mind, you can get lost, so read directions to the letter! Breakfast is always included, so it's not a deal. If there are lunches or dinners included, that's better. They can also customize your tour, so if you want shorter, or longer, they can do that...just give them the info they need and they will work to get it to your satisfaction. We've had them take a 7 day tour and make it 10 days for our last 2 bike trips with them, adding some towns to the route that weren't included. They can shorten the trip too, if you want.
