I’m hoping to hear of others’ experiences with climbing the bell tower. I don’t envision being able to climb all the way in one go. Is it practical to rely on being able to stop, rest, and look out often on the way up? Also, I assume that the Pass allows the opportunity to be inside the present-day Cathedral proper, but it isn’t clear from the website. Thanks for any clarifications on these two points.
My wife and I purchased the Giotto Pass for our free time in Florence on the VFR Tour. There is ample opportunity to stop, rest, take pictures, or whatever on the climb. You get great views at every level of the tower. And yes, the pass includes entry into the Duomo itself. Also, make sure you visit the Duomo Museum!
Thanks, Reederman!
Well, I got the Giotto Pass. If I understand correctly, I’ll need to show up on the date and time it says in order to climb the tower, but then can use the next couple of days to see the other things included (Baptistry, etc.). Is that accurate?
Yes! Just so you know, you can’t show up early and expect to climb the tower before your designated time. Also, they will absolutely NOT allow back packs or other bags on the tower climb. I was fine with my Tom Bihn small cafe bag, but 3 people in front of us were sent packing (pun intended) because they all had back packs. Unfortunately, one of them got into a very heated and loud argument with the official at the entrance to the tower, reinforcing the Ugly American stereotype.
Thanks once again!
