We are about to leave for the RS heart of Italy tour and are leaving our 8 year old son and 5 year old daughter at home. What would be good souvenirs to bring home to them? My son loves trains and daughter’s favorite food is pasta. We are probably getting a stuffed animal, key chains, and fun shaped pasta. Anyone else have any fun ideas or any particular shops to check out? And ideas on where to get train related gifts?
There is a Pinocchio store in Rome with all kinds of Pinocchio-related toys/souvenirs.
You may also look for a Lego store in Rome and Florence that will probably have Italy-related toys.
Pinocchio puppets are ubiquitous in many different sizes at news Kiosks, souvenir stands etc.. I bought a small one when I was in Florence because it reminded me of Florence and Pisa. Italian paper is beautiful, and maybe they could create a craft or card with it. Italian journals are beautiful and expensive here in the US if you can find them. The journal or notebook could be used as their own travel journal in the future. Vespa themed items are another consideration.
European chocolate is always a hit here!
there are very pretty glass bead necklaces in Venice -- some tourist junk and some nicer but all pretty that are nice gifts for little girls. Long ago I got them for all my young nieces for Christmas. I got my 6 year old grandson a medieval toy helmet at a castle on a visit (but you can get such things on Amazon and not have to lug them around -- just saying). I also bought a cardboard castle that was very high quality that we assembled together. He really loved doing that.
At museums you may find paper dolls with historic costumes for your daughter and coloring books of art, or the region, or historic scenes that either child might enjoy. Museum gift shops in Europe as in the US are often great places to get really nice gifts for people of any age and they always have things for children.
