Thank you for sharing! Fun article for the pics alone.
Yes, thank you for sharing!
Yes, thanks, Estimated--that article is nice but only scratches the surface of my favorite city on Earth.
I have been 3 times to Roma and am tweaking my plan for hopefully winter after next. Each time, we've stayed in the vicinity of Campo de' Fiori. October, February and most recently, last month (April) when it was just too dang crowded for my liking. Still great, however.
I'm thinking of 6 weeks total, maybe January 15 - March 1. Weather that time of year is surprisingly temperate, certainly better than Chicago. Find a reasonably-priced (off-season) apartment for 2 weeks, travel around Italy (or France) for 2 weeks, then come back to Roma for the final 2 weeks. In that neighborhood, everything is under a 5-minute walk. Grocery, bakery, bus stop, farmacia. And of course, a wonderful fruit & vegetable market, daily.
Prices for all this--cheaper than the US for sure. Even local restaurants, because of competition, have to keep their prices in line. Begin most mornings with a brisk walk along the Tiber River and a caffe and goodies from the bakery and decide what to do that day. Visit other markets like Testaccio, museum exhibits, and not feel like I'm pressed for time. So easy to do a historical deep dive in Rome...if you have the time!
Wish me luck!
Thanks for posting link here. When I read this last week, my first thought was that Rome is not meant to speed through in 36 hours. It is meant to be enjoyed slowly. Not sure I would be able to enjoy lunch in Testaccio at 1 p.m. and then rush to shop by 3 p.m. The traffic from one location to the next would surely take at least 20 to 30 minutes to move through. We are retired, so we can enjoy Rome as it is meant to be enjoyed. Time is precious - 36 hours is better than nothing.
