What route would be the easiest/quickest to Vernazza from Venice--train to Milan + connections or train to Florence + connections?

Hi cematrudo. Most trips either way will take about six hours and involve two or three changes. See trenitalia.com for all the choices. Some dates after June may not show yet; if so use a date before then to get the idea. Enjoy your trip!

The trip will be about the same via Milan or Florence. I'd probably choose the Florence option. The first leg of the trip will most likely be a Freccia high speed train, and from there to Vernazza via Regionale (DON'T forget to validate!) or InterCity trains. You can see all the details, number of connections, etc. on the Trenitalia website.
