Getting to venice from the rome airport

Hi, all!
Could anyone give suggestions on the best way and cheapest way to get from the Rome Airport to Venice? We will be arriving around nine thirty in the morning on June fourteenth and we'll have a few pieces of luggage with us.

Thanks!

Take the Leonardo Express train to Roma Termini then take the next fast train to Venice - Venezia Santa Lucia

Or
Book a flight to a Venice from Rome airport but that will probably take longer overall , can’t predict if your incoming flight will be on time and getting from Venice airport to Venice will add more time and expense

Or book a open jaw flight into Venice and flying out of Rome FCO.

It's about a 4.5 hour train trip from Rome Termini to Venice. We always travel with one 21" rolling carry on bag that we can take on and off the trains easily.

There is a train leaving Rome Termini at 12:36pm and every hour afterwards. It takes 4 hours to get to Venice. There is one at 11:35am you might be able to catch. Depends on you disembarking process time frame. 70-100 euros each.

You could fly as well, a little more money and a later flight. The train is much better. You can move about much more freely and relax more comfortably. Plus you have something to see out the window! Enjoy.

PS Limit your luggage to two small and a carry pack. Watch for pickpockets and bothersome people in Termini. Only trust people in an official uniform.

I would fly into Venice from wherever you are in the US. One single ticket there so you don’t have to go thru customs, pick up your bag, back thru security to get on your connecting flight. You may have to go thru passport control to change flights. Second part of the “SAME” ticket (NOT two one way—to much $$$$) or Rome, Paris, Florence…..you pick the place to go home from. Unless your flight into Rome is within Europe and is in fact from the US, I would not try to get from Rome airport to central Rome and they on a train to Venice. Way to taxing!

In Italy like most of Europe, you get around by train.

And since this is Europe, forget about cheap. It costs what it costs. The Man in Seat 61 can help explain your options.
