Getting to Todi, Italy

How do I get to Todi? I'm pretty sure that I'll need to fly into Rome, but then what? Also would appreciate any suggestions on a nice hotel in Todi - we will be celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary! Thanks!

Hi Jeanine, There are two ways of getting from Rome to Todi. You can either take the SULGA Bus directly to Todi from Rome or take a train from Rome to Terni and then take a bus to Todi. Hope this helps.

I visited Todi in late October. As my flight arrived into FCO early morning I opted to take the train/bus to Todi rather than the SULGA bus. The SULGA bus departs Rome at 4pm and the trip takes about 2 1/2 hrs. The bus is much more convenient as there is no transfer involved, but if you want to arrive earlier than 6:30/7:00pm you have no other option than to take the train.
You could of course rent a car, but a car isn't necessary to see the town. You can cover all the sites on foot. The most central hotel is Fonte Cesia - it's right off the main piazza.

I don't know how long you are staying, but there are so many interesting hilltowns near Todi that you might really enjoy having a car. Last trip we were there 11 nights (in an apartment) and made a day trip to somewhere fun every day. Todi was about a 2 1/2 hr drive from the Rome airport.

I concur with the car option. Todi can be done in just hours, if you have a car you can visit lots of other places in Umbria and even beyond during the remainder of your stay.
