My wife and I are departing from Venice (Marco Polo) at 7:30 AM on a Sunday morning. I am trying to figure out the quickest and easiest (and cheapest) way to get to Marco Polo Airport very early in the morning. We are staying near the train station. Thanks!
Assuming you are staying within walking distance to the train station, you would walk to the train station. Cross the new bridge at the train station to Piazzale Roma and catch the 05:00 blue ATVO bus to the airport. Cost is 3 euro and should take about 20 minutes, getting you there around 05:20. Marco Polo is a smaller aiport and there isn't much going on prior to 05:30. You should be fine. I believe there is an ATVO ticket office in P le Roma if you want to purchase tickets the prior day. In theory you should be able to get a ticket from the driver, but they have never been very interested in taking our money when we have tried.
Thanks for the help, Ron!
Its the number 5 ACTV Bus. Runs 4:40am and ever 30 minutes after that. Makes no sense to get to the Airport before 5:30am. Nothing is open till then. We couldn't even figure out which check-in station to stand in line for till the monitors turned on.
Actually, there are two different bus lines that run from the Piazzale Roma. The ACTV bus line is part of the City of Venice transportation system. The ACTV No 5 is the bus that goes from the Piazzale Roma to the airport. 2.50Euro. The other bus line is the independent ATVO Fly Bus. 3.00Euro. This bus also runs from the Piazzale Roma to the airport. It does depart from a different loading platform at the Piazzale Roma than does the ACTV NO 5. Both are easy to find and both run early enough for you to easily get to Marco Polo in time for your flight. The following is a link that shows the different bus stops at the Piazzale Roma. http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/piazzale-roma-bus-stops.htm
Thanks for the information. I'm going to Venice myself and was wondering the same thing.
