Getting to the field of Miracles

You are cutting it very close. If it were me, I'd take an earlier train.

You must be at the gate (i.e. past security, inside the sterile area) 30 min. prior to departure. Therefore 12:30 might be too late. The taxi ride from Piazza dei Miracoli to the airport is probably about 15 min. max. Leave the Piazza before Noon, so that you get to the airport no later than 45-50 min. prior to departure. It will give you time to go through security and be at the gate on time.

Good to know. With that Roberto would it be better to just leave the baggage at Pisa Central. Or is there a train station closer that we can just walk with our bags and take a taxi to the airport. We basically want a photo opp and to see it. Trying to figure out the best way to do that in a short time.

I flew in and out of Pisa and it is the one place where my traveling companions got up later than we did. They arrived at the Pisa airport in time for the late, but too late for check-in to the secured area. I remember check in there was not very efficient. Anyway they ended up having to take a later flight. So, be very careful to leave plenty of time to check in at the Pisa airport. Also, you will get a great view of the Tower and Field of Miracles on take off unless it is a cloudy day.

Thank you all good to know. So it looks like I need to leave my bags at the airport and then be back by 12 in order to check in for a 1:00 flight. Would that give me enough time. So maybe arriving at the pisa airport by 10:15 or so. Spending an hour at the tour then being back at the airport by 12. Or deciding to not go and seeing it from the plane :)

You need 30 min drive time back and forth. But to that you need to add the time it takes to get a taxi and the time it gets to check in at 11am. If for example you are done checking in at 11:20 and go outside to get on a taxi you might be at the tower at 11:45. You probably have 5 min. before you need to get on a taxi to make it back by 12:15. I checked and there are earlier trains. The fastest option leaves Siena approx. at 6:30 and put's you at the airport at 8:00 am. I think PIsa airport has a luggage storage. You could leave the luggage there, take a taxi to the Piazza and be back by 11:30 when you check in. That will give you almost 3 hours to enjoy the Piazza dei Miracoli.

I have taken on some aggressive sight seeing schedules like this but even for me this is cutting it way too close. I would take that earlier train.

Tiffany, While you can do this, it will be...sporty, and certainly not leisurely. It all depends on your comfort level with tight timelines. You are going to have to be prepared when you get off the train at the airport. Plan for 30 minutes transit each way in a cab. This MIGHT give you a half hour at the Field of Miracles. It also might just give you enough time to get the obligatory two or three pictures and not much else. You certainly won't climb the tower or go in anywhere. This would be easier if you could get a slightly earlier train into the airport from Siena.

Thanks all we will go to Pisa earlier if we decide to look around As far as getting a train ticket should I get this before I leave or purchase a ticket from Siena to Pisa when I get there?
