I've never been to Venice before. I have 2 questions before I look into hotels:
1. What hotel or area is the best.
2. What would be the mode of transportation from that hotel or area to the airport ( I have an 11am flight). Thanks!
Venice is quite compact so it hardly matters what area is best. You might want to consider whether you want to be canal side or not. Hotels near San Marco require the least walking to major sights, but they are also the most expensive.
To get to the airport, just catch the vaporetto to the Piazzale Roma and then the bus from there. Very easy. With an 11 am flight, you'll have plenty of time.
Yeah. A traveler with plenty of time to get to the Venezia Marco Polo airport for their flight. You have no worries. Kent is right on target for the bus to the airport. Don't get talked into a water taxi. They are fast but they are VERY expensive. The bus will do it.
The Alilaguna speedboat goes from SanMarco to the airport leaving 2 times per hour and costs 11E.This in my opinion is better then the Vaporatto and then the bus.
Hi Michelle, If you are considering the Alilaguna option, there are several Alilaguna "lines". The Blue line(boats leave as early as 3:40am) and Red line (boats leave starting at 7:45am) stop at numerous stops and takes over an hour to get to the airport depending on which dock you embark. The boats are about every hour. The cost per person is 12Euro.
The Gold Line is the "express" line which daparts from San Marco Giardinetti then stops at San Zaccaria then heads for the airport. This ride costs 25Euro per person. The first one leaves at 8:30am and arrives an hour later. There is a 7 minute walk from the dock to the airport (covered and very doable). Give your flight is at 11:00am, I would have to recommend you take one of the slower boats that leaves earlier. You will likely need all of the 2 hours when you get to the airport.
Of course, you can also take the bus. I am not familiar with method of transport.
Thank you for all your suggestions! Not that I would complain if I missed my flight and had to spend more time in Italy :)
We just used our 3 day vapo pass and took the vapo and then the bus...very easy and didn't cost us any extra to get to the airport for our 10:00 AM flight.
I looked at the options for getting to the airport last year and decided to get the vaporetto to Roma Square and then a cab to the airport. It was quick and easy and for me the less stressful way. Not the cheapest way however.
