Here's the problem: Our walking tour is over on a Sunday in October in San Quirico after our travels in Tuscany. Our next stop is Milan. Train from Siena has been suggested as the closest, but there is no bus service on Sundays to get to Siena train station from San Quirico (which has no train service). Any suggestions appreciated!
I've assumed "San Quirico d'Orcia"; there's several in Italy... 1)The easiest - consider staying the night in San Quirico d'Orcia, if at all possible. 2)Inquire about a driver (taxi?) taking you to Siena. 3)Sorry - I got nuthin' (but I tried). Is this an organized walking tour (run by a company)? And they'd leave you stranded with no transportation?!? Will you be with others in the same boat? Perhaps you could arrange a driver, and split the cost...Or, rent a car to drive? I suppose walking to Siena is out ;-) Good luck with this; let us know how this works out! (Sunday buses in Italy apparently spend the day at Momma's, eating spaghetti...)
Andrea, While I would question an organized tour that left you stranded that doesn't answer your question.
A car and driver would probably be required, see http://montalcinotravel.com/intro_eng.htm The nearest train station is Buonconvento.
I've looked at the http://www.trainspa.it/EXTRAURBANO/112A.pdf bus website and they have no symbology that I can understand on what is a weekday and what is a Sunday. You may be able to take the bus in after taking the train from Siena to Montepulicano. Second, rent a car for the day from Siena. If the rental place is closed on Sundays, you can rent Saturday afternoon and return Monday morning. Third, stay down there on Saturday night and Sunday night. Fourth, give up on the walking tour. These are all not good choices but Sundays are Sundays in rural Tuscany.
Larry, FYI http://www.trainspa.it/legenda.pdf I think you mixed up what direction Andrea is going.
There is no car rental in San Quirico that I know of.
Henry, thanks for the legend. I see my error.
Many thanks for all the input everyone. HF Holidays (a U.K. company) does provide a transfer to Pisa for 25 GBP per person which we'll probably do, and then catch the train from there. Just was hoping that someone would have a magic answer.
You already had 'the magic answer'...and it's a shorter train ride from Pisa.
