We are leaving on a cruise from Savona, Italy. Has anyone flown to Paris, and then train? car? We have never been to Europe before but I speak fairly good French and am not worried about getting around. Flights to Nice are very expensive. Has anyone done this?

Are you on a Costa Cruise ? We did this several years ago and flew into Nice and spent a few days in the area before taking the train into Savona. It was very easy.
You might find good prices flying into Milan or Genoa. Paris seems too far away.
Give yourself a couple days to explore the area you fly into.

Where are you writing from? You need to complete your profile with at least the city and country where you live so that we can advise you on best flight options.
The closest airport is Genova (GOA) which has only flights within Europe. From Genoa to Savona is a short train ride. The closest intercontinental airport with flights from all over the world is Milan Malpensa (MXP). From Malpensa Aeroporto to Savona it's a 4.5 hour train ride (train change at Milano Centrale and Genova Piazza Principe).
