How to Get to Revenna Italy from Venice

We are flying into Venice (VCE) arriving at 7:am on Aug 29th. Our Royal C cruise leaves from Revenna the next day. We would like to have driver to pick us up at the airport and drive us to Revenna and we would stay the night there and then go to port the next day. What a reliable transportation system to drive us. I have read several that if our plane is delayed or cancel we loose our money. Please advise the most reliable way of getting to Revenna the day before our cruise.

Have you considered taking the train? Pretty easy and inexpensive

It’s about a 2.5 hour drive each way so any driver will be pricey as you will basically be paying for both ways ( 500 euros?)

Does the cruise company offer any transfers to port?

Have you checked for recommendations on a cruise forum?

Oh I didn’t know the train went from Venice to Ravenna. Royal does have shuttle but it’s the next day and it’s $116 pp one way. We wanted to get to revenna the day before.
Thank you so much. I need to research on how to take the train and how many times it runs a day.

Airport bus or taxi to Venezia Mestre
Then fast train to Bologna or Ferrara and change to a regional to Ravenna ( almost hourly)
The change in Ferrara is easier than in Bologna

Trenitalia also has an easy to use app
https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html

Recommend not buying tickets til you arrive at Mestre or use the app when you arrive at VCE- there are many fast trains all day

Regionals can’t sell out, price never changes

Venezia Mestre is the name of the train station .....is that consider Centre City in Venice

No Mestre is not Venice center
It is before the causeway to the island

Venezia Mestre is the train station

No Mestre is not "City Center", it is Venezia Mestre. Where are you seeing this? You do not need to buy train tickets now. There is a regional train connection every hour at 53 past the hour and the price is always the same, 15.90 EUR pp.

The No 15 bus goes from the airport to Venezia Mestre Station every 30 minutes and costs 10 EUR pp. If you want a taxi, figure about 50 EUR.

What is your experience in using these two transportation companies that you suggested?. We would like to have a driver pick us up from the airport and drive us to Ravenna. The concern is if flights are delayed from what i have read they need 24 hour notice for changes; however flights can get delayed just a few hours before. So then we are stuck. The other option we don't go to Ravenna and get a taxi to a hotel near train station and then next morning take the Royal C Cruise shuttle ( that pick up is on the ground floor of the train station). Your thoughts?

Well the Royal C Shuttle certainly cannot pick you up at Venezia Santa Lucia station as that is on the island and no motorized vehicles can get there, so it must be Venezia Mestre station. There are several nearby hotels.

You can go to those websites and get a quote
Drivers will usually monitor flights and pick up accordingly

Only you can decide if you want to spend the night in Venice or in Ravenna
Venice would be easy- you will need to sort out your transportation from VCE ( lots of threads here with that info)

The cruise shuttle pick up can’t be at Venezia S Lucia station - on the Grand Canal—which is different than Mestre
There is no “Centre City” station

Also note correct spelling RAVENNA

I'm going to second the suggestion that, unless you have large amounts of luggage, the train is the simplest and most reasonably priced option. I am open to correction, but I believe that Italo allows you to buy a flexible ticket which allows changes up to 3 minutes before scheduled departure - so you could book a later train, then modify the ticket if you get to the station early.

Trenitalia possibly has similar options.

Depending on the tickets you purchase from trenitalia the tickets can be changed depending on the fare rules. My daughters incoming flight was delayed 3 hours due to storms in the US this week and I had a flight from the US delayed an hour in January due to a medical emergency so delays can happen. You need to decide what is best for you.

We decided to stay the night in Venice and take the Royal Caribbean shuttle the next morning at 9:am. Our flight from the states to Venice arrives at 7:am. We need a hotel room for that night. Does anyone have any recommendations on a hotel close to the train station? We will be tired and most likely will grab a bite near or at the hotel because we will get to the hotel well before check in time. Thank you

Hotel Abbazia is an easy walk from station
They will hold your luggage before check in
www.abbaziahotel.com

Consider buying a 24 hour vaporetto pass when at the airport ( individual rides ate expensuve, pass is a good deal)

Use it to enjoy Venice that day

thank you. We were thinking we should stay near Venezia Mestre station instead of St Lucia. Do you know of any near it?Thank you so much for your help

Oh
Did you determine exactly where your cruise pick up is?

Mestre is not on the Venetian island-you would need to take train to S Lucia to actually be in Venice proper ( easy enough, inexpensive and quick)
Sorry -never stayed in Mestre

Booking.com is a good place to start your search
Use the filters for location, budget, amenities
You can book there or find actual hotel website

My understand that Mestre is the station that cars and bus shuttles can go to. We told we would go to ground floor and look for sign "People Mover". Does that make sense?

I’ve never been to Mestre other than passing through the station nor have I taken a cruise

I will let others help you with this
It sounds more like the pick up is at Piazzale Roma in Venice ( there is a “People Mover” there)
If that is the case you will want to stay in Venice proper near S lucia station not Mestre

Do you have exact address for the pick up point?

hey hey bhgambill
welcome to the forum. reading all the posts can absolutely "drive us all crazy" so many things to think about. first thing i don't like is when cruise lines says venice but departure port is about 3 hours away, many don't really research it and then finding best/fastest/cheapest transportation.
here's my two cents recommendation, take it or leave it. as ChristineH and TimW take the train to ravenna after your flight. will be a long day but will get you into ravenna same afternoon day before cruise.
look at venezia mestre or venezia santa lucia station, which is best to get to ravenna with trenitalia. since your flight arrives early morning, give you time going thru passport/immigration, getting to venice for whatever hotel, check-in times 2-4pm, leave/store luggage roam around until check-in. hiring a private driver will be $$$, that driver and car has to come back to venice so you're being charged the round trip. save the cost of venice hotel & $116pp Royal Caribbean shuttle, book hotel at ravenna (booking.com). sometimes life throws us lemons make limoncello/lemonade. get to hotel in ravenna, relax, have dinner and taxi to port next day from hotel, less stressful.
ask hotel to book taxi or one may be outside hotel to cruise port. it will be a very busy morning/afternoon with many people getting off and on ship, wanting to do same as you; getting grumpy, upset, in a hurry, pushy. been there done that. stressed spelled backwards is desserts!!
another site that can be useful is cruisemapper.com
type in name of ports you are at, click month 2025, scroll down to days in ports to see how many ships in ports and how many thousands more cruisers are expected (scroll down a bit and will have # of passengers on ships)
enjoy your cruise and have a great vacation. ask more questions, here to offer good bad & ugly
aloha

We stayed near Venice Mestre at Hotel Regit in 2019. Very easy access to the train station. There weren’t a lot of dinner options in the area, but you could make do. You could also consider booking the hotel for the night before your arrival so you can access the room as soon as you arrive. That will require paying for two nights, but it might be worth it to you. Since you are headed to Ravenna the next day, I’d consider taking a short nap upon arrival and then heading into Venice for a few hours. Maybe an early dinner in Venice and then back to the hotel for the night.

Do you have exact address for the pick up point?

This is key information posters need to have to help you. It sounds to me as well, given mention of the People Mover, that the pickup point is on the island and not Mestre but again, exact address is important. Can you copy/paste it from the cruise line's communication with you?

Vehicles can basically go as far as Piazzale Roma

The “roads” beyond that are water ;)

You might want to study a map of the Venetian lagoon and surrounding area to get a good picture in your mind

Piazzale Roma is accessible by motor vehicles, as that is where the buses arrive and there is a huge parking garage. There is a large pedestrian bridge over the Grand Canal to the Santa Lucia train station and the rest of the Venice islands. The People Mover takes you over to where the big cruise ships used to able to dock, and there is also a bus station there as well. So the question is: What end of the people mover is your bus stopping?

The only information I see on Royal Caribbean website is Isola nova tronchetto . That we will get more details 30 days before we leave.

thank you all so much. So glad I asked.
We would like to be able to walk to the train station/bus stop the next morning. If anyone has any recommendations let me know.

Posted by

Tronchetto is at the other end of the People Mover from Piazzale Roma, and there is a small fare to pay for that, 1.50 EUR pp.

There are a few hotels on Piazzale Roma and a few more crossing just one small pedestrian bridge. Stay in one of these and you can get there on the airport bus and be able to tour Venice for a bit before getting the bus to Ravenna.

Hotel Abbazia as I recommended above

But
If you have a lot of luggage you might be better off near Piazzale Roma

The issue is bridges and stairs over the canals

Hampton by Hilton Venice Isola NuovaNew Hotel
Isola Nova del Tronchetto 17, Venice, 30135,
FYI This is a new hotel and is 5 minute walk for anyone who didn't know about this one. We have found a few that we are looking at.

Thank you all so much..

Kind of out in the middle of nowhere on Tronchetto, but the No 2 boat stops nearby, so use that for touring Venice. Use the People Mover after getting off the airport bus from the airport if you do not want to spring for a taxi.

Thank you for the tip on No 2 boat stops near the Hampton to touring Venice that evening. I need to find out the bus number from the Airport to take us to Hampton. If i read it right we can walk to People Mover from the Hampton the next morning to meet our cruise pickup.

Nothing will take you directly to the Hampton Inn at Tronchetto, except a taxi. Like I said, you are in nowheresville. A parking garage, an office park, and the Hampton Inn.

If you decide to stay at Hampton just take a land taxi from the airport

Go outside front of terminal to official taxi rank
All taxis take credit cards-confirm that with the driver
Hand driver your destination address
Or you can pay cash-not sure of any fixed rates
It’s about a 20 min ride so probably 25-30 euros at most

Or ask the hotel if they offer transfers
