Getting to Pompeii from Salerno

Hello! I’m traveling to Italy in less than two weeks and I have tickets to go to Mount Vesuvius with a bus transfer from Pompeii Scavi, and I’m having a little bit of trouble navigating how to get there from Salerno. It seems like there is a train to the main Pompeii station, but from what I’m able to gather it looks like the Pompeii Scavi train, which is near where the buses are supposed to pick up is a different line and I don’t believe that line goes to and from Salerno.

From what I can tell they’re not that far but what’s the easiest way to get from one to the other? It looks like there is a bus but is it frequent enough or is it worth checking cab fare (if you can get taxis in the area)? Do I need any particular transport card or can you pay cash/credit card on site? Particularly curious about the bus if I have to go that route,

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, the two stations are on different train lines. Pompeii Scavi is on the Circumvesuviana line, a private line, that runs from Naples to Sorrento, and stops near the main entrance of the Pompeii ruins, on the West side of the site.

From Salerno, you would take the Trenitalia rail line, that stops in modern Pompeii. To the Pompeii Scavi station is about a 25 minute walk. There likely would be taxis available as well.

If you take the Trenitalia train from Salerno, you don’t need to walk from the Pompei station to the Pompei Scavi station on the Circumvesuviana line, rather you would walk to the Archeological park other entrance near the Amphitheater (called INGRESSO ANFITEATRO), which is only 10-15 min walk from the Trenitalia station.

Pompeii Scavi is indeed the stop for the archaeological site on the Circumvesuviana train from Naples or Sorrento.
Just confirming, you're leaving from Salerno and not Sorrento, correct? I ask just because from Sorrento there is a train that goes to the archaeological park whereas from Salerno, as you have noted, the train goes to the town of Pompei.

I expected Salerno would be problematic but saw that taking train from Salerno one can book it with a bus link to Pompei Scavi.

I saw this at the Park's site:
https://pompeiisites.org/en/visiting-info/how-to-get-there/
By train:

Porta Marina, Piazza Esedra: Circumvesuviana Napoli-Sorrento (stop Pompei Villa dei Misteri)
Piazza Anfiteatro: Circumvesuviana Napoli-Poggiomarino (stop Pompei Santuario)
Train FS Napoli-Salerno (stop Pompei)
Pompei Link is the combined train + bus service that in about 15 minutes connects the Pompeii station to the Archaeological Park.
https://www.trenitalia.com/it/treni_regionali/campania/pompei-link.html
Trenitalia's site is easy to switch to English
and then at Trenitalia's site I entered one way (to keep it simple) Salerno to Pompei and it offered the choice of the train to Pompei (city) and the train bus the bus link

Hopefully that works for your timing.
