Getting to our hotel from Milan airport

We are traveling to Milan later this week and wondering about transportation from the Milan airport to our hotel, the Lancaster on the Via Abbondio Sangiorgio. It appears to be roughly 7 miles from the airport. Would a taxi be very expensive? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Stephanie, It's difficult to answer your question without some further detail. For example: > Are you flying into MXP or LIN? > If using MXP, do you arrive at T1 or T2? Using a Taxi from MXP would likely be quite expensive, so probably not a good option. Your hotel appears to be reasonably close to Sforza Castle. If you're arriving at MXP T1, the quickest option would likely be to use the Malpensa Express (train) to Milano Cadorna station (NOT Milano Centrale) and then take a very short Taxi ride from the station to your hotel. Happy travels!

If the hotel is the Lancaster and the airport is only 7 miles away (12 km), then the airport must be Milano Linate (LIN), because Milano-Malpensa (MXP) would be at least 50 km away (30 miles). If it's Linate, take a taxi. It's not expensive. I think the City imposed flat taxi fare is still 30 euro from Linate to the city center. The other options is a shuttle bus to the Station. But from there you need either a taxi or public transportation (Metro or bus). Therefore I would opt for a more convenient taxi from the airport. If you arrive at Malpensa (MXP) (check your plane ticket), then follow Ken's directions above. The taxi would be expensive from MXP (75 euro or $100)

Thank you both for your speedy responses! Yes, it is Linate and we will take a taxi. Roberto, you are an absolute font of practical and accessible information. Thank you so much for sharing it so graciously.

We had the same concern when we arrived in Milan (Linate) in April. We were headed to the Hotel Star near La Scala. This is how we made our decision...we were tired after our long flights and just wanted to get to our hotel! We walked out front of the airport and asked the first cab how much he wanted. He wanted a lot, we can't remember exactly but could have been 40 Euro. I remembered reading RS paid about 25 Euro, so I thanked the cabby and went to one down the line. The next guy we asked wanted 23 Euro! We were on our way. He delivered us to the door of our hotel and charged the 23 Euro, not a bit more. Don't know if others have had similar experiences.
