getting to monteriggioni

I know we can take the train, or the bus, which seems to be the preferred method, from florence to siena, in order to get to monteriggioni. My question is does anyone know if we can take the bus directly from florence to monteriggioni so we can avoid the extra time and trouble of transferring transportation in siena? we are booked at the hotel in town. Have also been advised to get a car at the bus station and drive there, but I have never driven in europe and am a little hesitant to do that. Any opinions on the driving issue? The hotel has free parking, just in case that is an issue for some. thanks!!!

Monteriggione is just a few kilometers outside of Siena, I think the bus is your best option (although the drive is beautiful). If you are driving only to get from Florence or Siena to Monteriggione, it may not be worth it - you'll be spending some time waiting for your rental car and then turning it in, a trade-off for the time you'll spend on public transportation transfers.

Thanks Zoe. You make a good point, because yes, that is the only stretch that I would have been using a car. Also, just in case anybody else has this question, the hotel owner was kind enough to respond to my question via email (which I honestly did not know if I would receive a reply) and she also said that the bus to siena and then a taxi to the town/hotel is the best way. This site has been the best source of information. thanks to everyone.
