Getting to Marco Polo Airport from Venice

We are staying near the Accademia Museum area and are concerned about getting to the airport via the vaporetto as it takes so long. We also know the water taxis are expensive so want to know what is the safest way to get to the airport efficiently.

Cheapest is probably vaporetto to Piazzale Roma and the express bus from there to the airport.

If that's just too slow, look at the Alilaguna boat - compare the price and time to vaporetto + express bus.

Instead of taking the vaporetto from the Accademia stop, it should be faster to walk over to Zattere to catch Line 2, which takes half an hour to Piazzale Roma via the Guidecca Canal.

You did not tell us what time your flight is. If it takes a long time to get there, just leave earlier. Or is there some other issue you want to share?

I always prefer the Alilaguna. It's easy, comfortable, and relatively quick into central Venice. The water transportation terminal is right inside the airport. 45ish minutes from the Rialto stop on the Grand Canal to the airport - orange line. Other than a private water taxi or the bus that's the easiest way. You can also catch a taxi from the bus terminal just west of the train station.

Alilaguna is 1 hour and 7 minutes from Ca' Rezzonico to the airport, then about 500 meters (OK, there is a new moving walkway) to the actual airport. They run on a 30 minute schedule. The boats have less than rave reviews, sitting low in the water with salt-caked windows.

You can probably beat that with the No 1 boat and the No 5 bus. The vaporettos run on a 12 minute interval, and take 38 minutes from Accademia to P. le Roma. The bus takes 23 minutes to get to the airport door and runs on a 15 minute interval. Worst case, it takes the same amount of time as the Alilaguna if you have the bad luck of just missing the bus and having to wait for the next one. And again, it picks you up closer to your lodging and drops you at the airport instead of a half kilometer away.

Just used a water taxi to get to the airport. We were staying at a hotel right on the grand canal next to the St Angelo vaporetto stop. Hotel also had its own pier. It was expensive at €120, but so convenient. It was a fun ride too.
When we got to the other end there were several guys offering to drive us to the terminal. We walked. It was no problem with the new moving sidewalk.
