Getting To La Spezia

I asked this question before, but it looks like new information has me asking this again.

We will be staying outside Lucca, with a 30 minute drive to the train station. The idea was to take the train from Lucca to La Spezia (changing trains in Viareggio), where we will continue on to Cinque Terre for the day, returning in the evening.

My original concern was getting to La Spezia - I was going to drive but was concerned about the parking - I don't want to waste what little time I've got possibly finding the parking lot there full, then having to drive around to find a place to park. So I was going to eat the cost of a train ticket from Lucca to La Spezia.

However, when I looked read more about this I started to get concerned about the parking situation in Lucca, as well as the parking situation in Viareggio.

So does anyone have experience with this? I'd like to be as efficient with my time as possible, but I just don't know what parking might be like mid-morning in these places, and don't see where I can reserve a spot. My default will be just to drive to La Spezia and hope for the best, but there may be better options?

George - You can enter La Spezia Centrale train station on your GPS. Once there, the entrance to the -2 level of the garage (where you can reserve spaces in advance) is on via Fiume.

In La Spezia you can park for free but not in the center of the town and near the train station since it's everywhere payment parking. The closest place where you can park is 15 minutes from the train station, so ..I guess it's not worth.

Yes, I have seen the first link you noted, but do not see anywhere that I can reserve a parking spot for the 25th of September.

I also have been trying to send a message to Park Center Station asking them about this but their form is not working.

I was able to get an email to the parking people at the lot at the La Spezia train station and received the following:

Good morning, the booking system is out of order. You can arrive without booking. I advise to arrive early in the morning (before 10am) or late in the afternoon (after 4 pm).

So I guess there is no way to reserve a spot there.

George just arrive in La Spezia early to address the parking
