Getting to hotel in Venice from Train station

Hello!

We are staying at a hotel in Venice that is literally on the other side of the canal from the train station there. If memory serves me correctly, there is a bridge that is right there? Will this be easy enough with our luggage to cross?? Someone is telling me it will be difficult with luggage?? TIA!
(We are staying right near the Church of St. Simeon Piccolo)

Do you have mobility issues?
How much luggage?

If no and you are traveling light it won’t be difficult

No mobility issues. Normal sized 26” suitcase. No trunks (lol)

You really do not have any choice, you have to cross the Scalzi bridge on foot. You could take a vaporetto further elsewhere and have a long walk back wherein you will still have to cross multiple bridges. View Google Maps and satellite shot.

They COULD do the, but that also means TWO bridges to then cross, a longer walk, and managing their suitcases on a crowded vaporetto.

I just checked the location of the church and realized they mean to use the Scalzi Bridge, not the big on we used. Depending on how close to the Sun Simeon Piccolo they are, they may have only that one bridge to cross.

Look to your right when you are canal side in front of the train station and you will see the bridge. You should not have any problems even with luggage that size.

Depending on the exact location of the hotel, perhaps going left from the train station and using the Scalzi Bridge might mean less walking with the luggage.

or if you will be getting a vaporetto pass, by far the cheapest and easiest way to get around on the vaporettos vs. a 8€ single fare or whatever it will be in 2025, a 24/48/76 hour pass pays for itself very quickly (remember to tap the validator before every trip), the additional cost to cross the Grand Canal from the train station (Ferrovia vaporetto stop) across to Piazzale Roma to walk easily to your hotel will be zero and you save all those steps.

The Scalzi bridge looks like it has 40 steps up and then 40 steps down.

If you live in a 2 story home, which typically has 14 steps between levels, you can practice at home with your bag(s). Will give you some idea of the task.

That 26" bag may seem like a steamer trunk by the time you are on the other side.... :-)

The vaporetto fare for a single trip has been 9.50 euros for several years. I hope that doesn't mean it's due for an increase soon...

A bridge like that, with spaced-out steps, is very different from the steps in one’s home, with their 7” rise and 11” run.

Yes, the initial flight of steps from the street is 7, then a landing, then 5 steps and a landing, then 7 sets of 4 steps each with a landing after each set. Plenty of time and space to take a break along the way.
