We are leaving Florence on June 24 - which is Festival of St. John the Baptist. Will there be a problem getting to the airport early? Is there any town nearby where we could stay? Will taxis be running? Thank you
No problem at all. Stay put at your hotel downtown and take a taxi from there. San Giovanni is a holiday in Florence, but only some shops and offices close down, everything else is business as usual. There is no reason to stay at a hotel in a town near the airport, also because the town near the airport is Florence. The airport is so close to the city that you could walk to it. (less than 4 miles from the city center). Depending on where you are allow 10-20 min. max for the drive. Taxi fare to the airport will be approx. 25 euro (incl. night surcharge before 7). I know it's a lot of money for less than 4 miles, but that's what the City set for them and that is also why I don't leave tips to taxis in Italy (and neither should you).
thank you Roberto - this is helpful info.
