I'll be in Orvieto on Sunday, and would like to side trip to Civita di Bagnoregio. Will the bus be running that day? If not, will a cab ride bankrupt me? Thanks!
Rick says in his book, Italy 2008, that as of 2007 buses did not run on Sundays. This info is dated but I don't have any better info for you on this. Maybe someone else has better info?
Christopher,
As Kent mentioned, the Buses don't run on Sundays. Another travel site states "There is a bus from Orvieto; the trip takes about an hour and costs €3.20 round trip. Blue cotral buses leave Orvieto's Piazza Cahen, then stop at the train station, daily except Sunday at 6:15 and at 12:45, 3:45, and 6:20 p.m. During the school year from September to June, there are additional departures at 7:20 and 7:50 a.m. and at 1:55 p.m. Buy tickets at the train station bar."
The journey from Orvieto to Bagnoregio (and Civita) is about an hour each way from what I recall, so a Taxi ride would probably "bankrupt" you. If I was facing the same situation, I'd probably rent a Car for the day.
Good luck and happy travels!
