Getting to Cinque Terre - Levanto or Sestri Levante as starting point

I feel like I may have made and just avoided a huge mistake; either that or I am confused.

We will be going to the CT in a little more than a week (yes I know it is low season). We are starting in MIlan. Right now, I have a train booked from Milan to Levanto, then had planned on catching the CT Express train to Manarola.

I just found a (poorly written) website saying that actually I need to get to Sestri Levante; no mention of Levanto.

Was I wrong to book to Levanto and do I need to cancel / rebook for Sestri Levante? Or did I book it properly?

You should have been able to book this journey on one ticket; from Milano Centrale to Manarola. Entering these two stations as start and end destinations into the Trenitalia website + a random date and time next week, most options show a train change in Sestri Levante. That's fine.

But if you booked Milan to Levanto with the intention of just catching the next CT Express run into Manarola, that's fine too. You'll just need to purchase that additional ticket in Levanto for that leg of the journey, and don't forget to validate it before hopping on the train, OK?

I booked Milano Centrale to Levanto. My plan was, once in Levanto train station, to buy the CT rail and trail pass, then catch the next CT express from Levanto to Manarola.

Sounds like this is an ok plan?

I kinda thought maybe you were looking at the Treno pass for your stay in the CT, thus booking into Levanto. You could have just purchased it in Manarola too if, say, you'ed booked straight through with that change in Sestri Levante but yes, you certainly can buy it in Levanto. You'll be fine. Have a great time!
